(a) I love children. On coming to Rastrapati Bhavan, I have met them sometimes through video conference and sometimes directly. After talking with them, I have formed an idea about their opinion and view points on different matters. We always bother about big issues, but quite often forget to pay attention to the smaller ones. On many Occasions, their comments on these minor problems are such as to show how strong their power of comprehension. The problem lies with setting up of our precedence. Sitting in Delhi, it is felg perhaps nothing could be more serioús an issue than this. But this big country has many states having different kinds of problems. When I talk to a farmer at a remote vilage and find how he tries to bring up his child with proper education, I feel amazed at the diversity of this vast country.
(b) So long we have tried to learn only one language in the main, English, besides the mother tongue. This has three-fold objects earning our bread, intercourse with foreigners and acquisition of knowledge in various subjects. When Hindi will become the official language of the country, it will not be possible for us to earn our living with knowledge of English only. Hindi will be indispensable in government service and in profession like law. Conversation with the people of the other provinces of India also shall have to be carried on mainly 1n Hindi. But English must have to be learnt by those who would go in for higher education or like to keep in touch with all the countries of the world. No doubt, in future also many will be able to earn their living without learning Hindi: just as many do it now by agriculture, ndustry, trade and physical labour withont learning English.

It is very interesting to study the coming of the Aryans to India. You can find out a lot about them from our Sanskrit books. Some of these like the Vedas, must have been written about the time. The oldest Veda is the Rig Veda and you can form some idea from it of the past of India which the Aryans occupied them.

Three days after the incident Col. - Gracy returned and gave the following account of the tragic disaster. “It was Sunday night. We were getting ready to go to sleep in our own cabins when the ship received a shock and | was thrown off the bed. | heard the cries of agony of the passengers of the ship. | looked at my wristwatch-it was just ten. In the midst of wailing on all sides, | came to know that the ship had struck against an iceberg and had been seriously damaged. Death was inevitable.”

That afternoon almost the whole of kamarpukur comes for the Kirtan. Through Dhani, the word was spread that Ramakrishna would go back to the Dakshineswar, so no one wanted to miss this opportunity. As the courtyard is too small to hold the crowd, they shifted to a nearby field. Several of the men have khols, two or three have violin, and a few others have flutes. The men sit on the ground in a group with Ramakrishna and the ladies sit on one side.

One day Sir Isaac Newton went out of his room leaving on the table a heap of papers containing his long research on the theory of light. There was on the floor of the room lying his pet dog, Diamond. No sooner had he gone then the dog jumped upon the table and upturned the lighted candle and the papers immediately caught fire. Returning after a few minute Newton found that all his hard labour of twenty years had been reduced to ashes. But the great scientist patted the dog on the head exclaiming, "Oh; Diamond, you don't know what you have done !"

Two persons once boarded the same compartment of a train. One was an Englishman and the other was Bengalee gentleman. The Englishman was an army officer, tall and strong by built. He appeared to be proud of himself as he was an Englishman. The Bengalee gentleman headed him not and was soon asleep. Soon after the Englishman picked up the gentleman's shoes and threw them out. Then he too fell asleep. The Bengalee gentleman woke up. looked about for his shoes. He understood it all. He then took the Englishman's long coat and threw it out. Next morning the Englishman shouted, "where is my coat?" "Your coat has just gone to fetch my shoes", bravely replied the gentleman. The gentleman was Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, "The Tiger of Bengal."

The wheels of fate will some day compel the English to give up their Indian Empire. But what kind of India will they leave behind, what stark misery ? When the stream of their two centuries’ administration runs dry at last, what a waste of mud and filth they will leave behind them . I had at one time believed that the springs of civilization would issue out of the heart of Europe. But today when I am about to quit the world that faith has gone bankrupt altogether. Today I live in the hope that the Saviour is coining - that he will be born in our midst in this poverty-shamed hovel which is India. I shall wail to hear the divine message of civilization which he will bring with him, the supreme word of promise that he will speak unto man from this very eastern horizon to give faith and strength to all who hear. As I look around I see the crumbling ruins of a proud civilization strewn like a vast heap of futility. And yes I shall not commit the grievous sin of losing faith in Man.

We in India do not have to go abroad in search of the past and the distant. We have them in abundance. If we go to foreign countries it is in search of the present. That search is necessary, for isolation from it means backwardness and decay. The old barriers are breaking down and life becomes more international. We have to play our part in this coming internationalism and, for this purpose, to travel, meet others, learn from them and understand them. But a real internationalism is not something in the sir without roots or anchorage. It has to grow out of national cultures and can only flourish to-day on a basis of freedom and equality and true internationalism. We are citizens of no mean country and we are proud of the land of our birth, of our people, our culture and traditions. That pride should not be for a romanticized past to which we want to cling, nor should it encourage exclusiveness or a want of appreciation of other ways than ours. It must never allow us to forget our many weaknesses and failings or blunt our longing to be rid of them. We have a long way to go and much lee-way to make up before we can take our proper station with others in the van of human civilization and progress. And we have to hurry, for the time at our disposal is limited and the pace of the world grows ever swifter.

- Man is curious by nature. He wants to know the unknown and to see the unseen. Books and pictures cannot fulfill his desire for knowledge. We read of mountains, seas and forests in our books but not idea of these objects of nature cannot be completed unless and until we see them ourselves. It is the spirit of adventure which has enabled us to solve many mysteries of the universe. Travelling makes most of the adventures fruitful. It increases and supplements our knowledge. The theoretical knowledge derived from books it rendered practical and real by traveling. Travelling is refreshing too.
Believe in God and behave according to His teaching, work according to His words - this can be called religion. Politics is based on ism. Religion can never be many but politics or ism can be many. So politics and religion are different from each other. Religion never divides people into many parts. Hinduism, Islamism, Jainism are not religions but these are the only way to reach God. One can reach Delhi by plane, bus, train etc. Hinduism, Islamism, Jainism are just like the same. The destination of all is the same.
